New York: The Vertical Hour plays its final performance today at the Music Box Theater. The closure comes three weeks earlier than previously announced. The limited engagement was originally set to close on April 1st. The show is expected to recoup its investment by March 11th, so the early closing will enable the production to stay in the black.
Starring in the David Hare drama is Julianne Moore, Bill Nighy, and Andrew Scott.
The creative team features set design by Scott Pask, costume design by Ann Roth, and lighting design by Brian MacDevitt. Sam Mendes directs.
The drama concerns Nadia Blye, a young American war correspondent turned academic who now teaches Political Studies at Yale. A brief holiday with her boyfriend in the Welsh borders brings her into contact with a kind of Englishman whose culture and beliefs are a surprise and a challenge, both to her and to her relationship.
