London : The Old Vic Theatre's in rep productions of Twelfth Night and The Taming of the Shrew play their final performances today.
The cast of both productions include Bob Barrett, Jason Baughan, Tony Bell, Dugald Bruce-Lockhart, Alasdair Craig, Joe Flynn, Chris Myles, Simon Scardifield, Jack Tarlton, Dominic Tighe, Jon Trenchard, and Tam Williams.
The creative team for Twelfth Night includes design by Michael Pavelka and lighting design by Ben Ormerod. The Taming of the Shrew team includes design by Michael Pavelka and lighting design by Ben Ormerod and Mark Howland. Both are directed by Edward Hall. In The Taming of the Shrew , a man playing a boy dresses up as a girl, which confuses Christopher Sly; whilst in Twelfth Night , a man playing a girl is disguised as a boy, which confuses everybody. Padua and Illyria, illusion or reality? Does it matter? What begins as a trick played on a drunken groom in Padua ends in the bittersweet confusions of an island called Illyria. In both plays, Shakespeare asks us to reflect on the nature of happiness and true love.
