The West End's Glass Menagerie opens today

The Glass Menagerie tells the story of a St. Louis family struggling to cope with the harsh realities of the Great Depression and the bitter memories that haunt them. London: The London production of The Glass Menagerie opens today at the Apollo Theatre. Headling the production is Jessica Lange as family matriarch, Amanda Wingfield. Starring opposite her in the play is Ed Stoppard as Tom, Amanda Hale as Laura, and Mark Umbers as the Gentleman Caller.
The production will play a limited run through May 19th. Rupert Goold directs.

His abrasive mother, Amanda, once a Southern socialite, tries to maintain her dignity amidst the gloom of the tenement, and secure a future for her painfully shy daughter, Laura, who has retreated to an imaginary world caring for her collection of glass animals.
