Paris - France is to honour the British playwright and Nobel Prize winner Harold Pinter with the Legion of Honour, the office of the French prime minister said in Paris Tuesday.
Prime Minister Dominique de Villepin is to award the honour to the 76-year-old playwright, who is suffering from cancer, in London on Wednesday after a meeting with his British counterpart Tony Blair.
Pinter, whose plays include The Birthday Party and The Caretaker, received the Nobel Prize for Literature in December 2005. He has been a vocal critic of the Iraq war.
The Legion of Order is France's highest award.
