Suddenly Last Summer closes today

New York: The Roundabout Theater's production of Tennesse Williams' Suddenly Last Summer plays its final performance today at Off-Broadway's Laura Pels Theater.

Starring in the production is Blythe Danner as Mrs. Venable, Carla Gugino as the young cousin, Becky Ann Baker as Mrs. Holly, Gale Harold as Doctor Cukrowicz, Sandra Shipley as Sister Felicity, Karen Walsh as Miss Foxhill, and Wayne Wilcox as George Holly.The creative team includes set and costume design by Santo Loquasto, lighting design by David Weiner, original music and set design by Peter Golub, and direction by Mark Brokaw.In the play, Mrs. Venable is an aging widow distraught over the mysterious death of her son. When the young cousin traveling with him begins raising scandalous allegations, Mrs. Venable will stop at nothing to preserve her son’s reputation.Suddenly Last Summer premiered Off-Broadway on January 7, 1958. It was adapted into a film in 1959 starring Elizabeth Taylor, Katharine Hepburn, and Montgomery Clift.
