T. Flierl as senator for Science and Culture signed some years ago a contract with the Lady as the production director of this scheduled Idomeneo-performance and at the same terminated a contract with a person I personally have kown very well ...
Explanations of Abbreviations: Flierl worked as 'Mitarbeiter fuer Staatssicherheit'
of the former German Democratic Republic.
Berlin opera may stage 'Idomeneo' if sure of safety
either show the damn play or STFU...the person in charge sounds like a 'wussie' that doesn't even go outside unless someone guarantee's that its safe..and won't even drive a car unless their the only person on the road...Idiots
By not showing the play the terrorists have already won a victory. These people are so brainwashed they really think beleave there going to some magical place where 72 virgin's are waiting for them.Well i guess if you start telling a 2 year old to hate blacks or jews they think it's normal, very sad.....
I commend the German people for rallying to the cause of artistic freedom in their country. While concern regarding possible violence is not unfounded, this is nothing compared to the eternal fight for liberty. It looks like Germans are making the right choice and arguing their case vociferously.
It's not the opera that's banned! It's the interpretation. Neither the script (Libretto) nor Mozart himself ever said you should have decapitated gods at the end. I think the media has been alluding to the problem being with the opera itself. This would lead a lot of people to start blaming Mozart. Everything that's contentious about this version has to do with things the director added so let's put blame where it belongs
Why is this only a problem since the head of Mohamed is there. The head of Jesus would also be offensive to Muslims and Christians. Either respect everyone or no one.
I also agree that the interpretation is the problem, not the play itself.
Since when are severed heads art? Besides the complainers usualy don't attend opera. Much less be a qualified critic
It is pathetic that some people do not have any decency. It is with extreme poor judgement, that some obviously anti-religious playwright would write in a scene decapitating Mohammad and Christ. Its offensive to civilized people that such people want to denegrate religions in such a crude tastles manner to express their contempt for the religous beliefs of others.
Christ's life was in service to others. He never did anything but good. Why would some fool want to denegrate him. Why didn't the insensitive playright also have mother Teresa beheaded for her life of good works and service to the poor.
Why not behead Hitler or some other evil doer who spent their life commiting crimes against humanity. There are plenty of other examples in history of such evil doers. Why degrate the good and the decent.
Why express malice toward religions in a play? Some of the best plays of the past showed the good and the decent triumphing over evil. Now it must be chick to turn it around.
Hooray! for art. Who ever is offended by this play...don't go. Art should be gross, or beautiful, or uncomfortable, or shocking, or more! becuase that is what makes it real. I had a great friend tell me one time that if I had no enemies I had no edge...I think he had something there. If it doesn't make you feel, it is not truly art. If you want to exress your opinion about your dislikes of the play why can't they show the play? Or is your opinion the only opinion that counts?

'....the closing scene implied that world religions were evil and had caused the sacrifice of countless lives.'
This is an irrefutable statement for anyone with any historical perspective.
