Butley moves opening night back
By Amy Somensky Jul 25, 2006, 2:22 GMT
New York: Simon Gray's Butley, starring Nathan Lane, has pushed its opening date back to October 25th so as to not conflict with the opening date for The Times They Are A-Changin' on October 26th. The opening date for Butley had been changed to October 26th. Previews are still set to begin at the Booth Theater on October 5th. Nicholas Martin is set to direct.
Lane starred in a 2003 production of Butley at The Huntington, also directed by Martin. It premiered on Broadway in 1972.
The creative team will include set design by Alexander Dodge, costume design by Ann Roth, lighting design by David Weiner, and sound design by John Gromada.
Butley is a dark comedy about a literary professor who loses his wife and lover in the same day.
Nathan Lane is a two time Tony winner, winning for The Producers and A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum. He recently finished a run in The Odd Couple opposite Matthew Broderick, and has starred on Broadway in Guys and Dolls, Love! Valour! Compassion!, The Frogs, and Laughter on the 23rd Floor.
Additional casting for the play will be announced.
