London: Patrick Swayze will make his West End debut in Guys and Dolls later than expected. The actor, who was scheduled to begin performances as Nathan Detroit on July 10th, fell ill with a chest infection three weeks ago and was unable to attend rehearsals. Due to this, his first performance will now take place on July 27th. It has also been announced that he has extended his run for three weeks through September 23rd.
Understudy Andrew Playfoot will play the role from July 10th through the 22nd. Claire Sweeney will begin her run on July 10th as scheduled.
Swayze is most known for starring in such films as Dirty Dancing, Ghost, Point Break, and Road House. His Broadway credits include Grease and Chicago.
Guys and Dolls currently features Neil Morrissey as Nathan Detroit, Sally Ann Triplett as Miss Adelaide, Adam Cooper as Sky Masterson, and Kelly Price as Sarah Brown.
The musical opened at the Piccadilly Theatre on June 1, 2005.
In Guys and Dolls, Nathan Detroit, the organizer of the oldest established permanent floating crap game in New York, bets fellow gambler Sky Masterson that he can't make the next girl he sees fall in love with him. The next girl he sees happens to be Miss Sarah Brown, a pure-at-heart Salvation Army-type reformer. Sky has his work cut out for him.
