London: Patrick Swayze will join the West End production of Guys and Dolls as Nathan Detroit on July 10th. Claire Sweeney, who was just announced to star in the musical's U.K. tour, will also join the West End production on July 10th. She will play Miss Adelaide.
Swayze is most known for starring in such films as Dirty Dancing, Ghost, Point Break, and Road House. His Broadway credits include Grease and Chicago.
Sweeney has starred in Chicago and the tour of Fosse.
Guys and Dolls currently features Neil Morrissey as Nathan Detroit, Sally Ann Triplett as Miss Adelaide, Adam Cooper as Sky Masterson, and Kelly Price as Sarah Brown (both Cooper and Price will continue once Swayze and Sweeney begin performances).
The musical opened at the Piccadilly Theatre on June 1, 2005.
In Guys and Dolls, Nathan Detroit, the organizer of the oldest established permanent floating crap game in New York, bets fellow gambler Sky Masterson that he can't make the next girl he sees fall in love with him. The next girl he sees happens to be Miss Sarah Brown, a pure-at-heart Salvation Army-type reformer. Sky has his work cut out for him.
