Cirque du Elvis planned
May 20, 2006, 16:19 GMT
Los Angeles (dpa) - The spectacular performance troupe The Cirque du Soleil has signed a deal to create a show based on Elvis Presley.
The Montreal-based company teamed up with CKX Inc, which owns the rights to the singer's name and likeness, to develop touring and permanent shows as well as a multimedia experience beginning in 2008.
'This arrangement will allow fans around the globe, who have only seen Elvis Presley in movies or listened to his music, to truly experience what it was like to see Elvis perform,' said Robert Sillerman, chairman and CEO of CKX Inc.
CKX and Cirque du Soleil will each own 50 per cent of the Elvis Presley Project, sharing equally in the costs of creating, developing, building and producing each project and taking home the profits. CKX will also receive royalty payments.
In addition to US tours, at least one touring show will open in Europe, or possibly Asia by 2008.
At least 10 more Elvis projects are planned between 2009 and 2021.
