New York: The Tony and Pulitzer Prize winning play, Doubt, will play its final performance at the Walter Kerr Theater on July 2nd. At the time of closing it will have played 525 performances and will be the fifth longest running play of the past 10 years.
The cast which currently features Eileen Atkins as Sister Aloysius, Ron Eldard as Father Flynn, Jena Malone as Sister James, and Adriane Lenox as Mrs. Muller have extended their contracts several weeks to play through July 2nd. A national tour of the play will begin in September and star Cherry Jones.
John Patrick Shanley's drama was originally produced by Manhattan Theatre Club Off-Broadway at Stage I at New York City Center, where it opened Nov. 23, 2004, and played for 101 performances through Jan. 30, 2005. The play opened at The Walter Kerr Theater on March 31st. It won the 2005 Tony Awards for Best Play, Best Actress in a Play (Cherry Jones), Best Director (Doug Hughes), and Best Featured Actress in a Play (Adriane Lenox).
