Starring in the Lincoln Center production is Ben Gazzara, Zoe Wanamaker, Mark Ruffalo, Lauren Ambrose, Ned Eisenberg, Jonathan Hadary, Peter Kybart, Pablo Schreiber, and Richard Topol.
The Light in the Piazza's Bartlett Sher serves as director. The design team includes set design by Michael Yeargan, costume design by Catherine Zuber, and lighting design by Christopher Akerlind.
Awake and Sing! concerns a Jewish family living in the Bronx who have fallen on bad times during the depression. It was first performed in 1935, also at The Belasco. That production starred Luther and Stella Adler, John Garfield, and Stanford Meisner. It was then brought back to Broadway in 1938, 1939, and 1984. The 84' production starred Nancy Marchand, Harry Hamlin, Dick Latessa, and Frances McDormand at The Circle in the Square Theater.
