New York : Rebecca Pitcher, currently starring as the Christine alternate in The Phantom of the Opera , will move up to the lead role on April 17th. She replaces Sandra Joseph, who will play her final performance on the 15th.
Pitcher has also starred in the national tour of the musical as the young singer.
Succeding Rebecca Pitcher in the alternate role is Jennifer Hope Wills. Her first performance will be the April 15th matinee. She has starred on Broadway in Wonderful Town, The Woman in White , and Beauty and the Beast , as well as the Encores! production of A Tree Grows in Brooklyn .
The Phantom of the Opera currently stars Howard McGillin, Michael Shawn Lewis, David F. Cryer, George Lee Andrews, Anne Runolfsson, Marilyn Caskey, Roland Rusinek, and Heather McFadden.
Based on Gaston Leroux's novel, The Phantom tells the story of a deformed man haunts the underground of the Paris Opera House. He falls in love with a young woman, Christine, whom he is teaching to perfect her voice. He exerts a strange control over her especially when she begins to fall in love with the handsome Raoul, and causes mayhem when things do not go his way.
