Antonio Banderas to star in Don Juan DeMarco musical

New York: Antonio Banderas is set to return to Broadway in a musical adaptation of the the 1995 film, Don Juan DeMarco. Variety has confirmed that the musical is in the works. Marsha Norman is on board to write the book and producers are looking for a composer. Michael Kamen and Bryan Adams were attached to the musical, but all of that changed when Kamen died in 2003. While doing press for his latest film, Banderas has said that the production will be seen next year on Broadway and be helmed by David Leveaux. Variety has spoken to Mark S. Kaufman, executive producer of the production who has said that Banderas may be moving too quickly. Kaufman said, "I don't think it can be put together that quickly. We're going to get it right, and then we're going to do it." He also said that Leveaux as director has not been confirmed, but "we all think it's a good idea."The 1995 film Don Juan DeMarco from New Line Cinema starred Johnny Depp and Marlon Brando. The film concerns a man who claims that he is Don Juan, the greatest lover in the world, and the phychiatrist who treats him.
