Casting and theater announced for Martin Short: Fame Becomes Me

New York: Complete casting and theater information for Martin Short: Fame Becomes Me has been announced. Joining Short on the stage will be: Brooks Ashmanskas, Mary Birdsong, Capathia Jenkins, and Nicole Parker.

The production will begin performances at Broadway's Bernard B. Jacobs Theater on July 22nd and officially open on August 10th.

According to a release, Fame Becomes Me begins with Short and company singing the exuberant "Party with Marty," launching what he intends to be a celebration of his "fabulous, perfect life." Very quickly, it becomes clear the audience—addicted to Oprah and "Behind the Music" — expects scandal and angst from their star. Lacking any in his own life, Short frantically modifies his life story as he and the cast tell it, adding the requisite struggle, pain and psychobabble to fabricate an increasingly hilarious alternative autobiography.

Originally named, Martin Short: If I'd Saved, I Wouldn't Be Here, the production features music by Marc Shaiman, lyrics by Scott Wittman and Shaiman, book by Martin Short and Daniel Goldfarb, and direction by Wittman. The creative team includes choreography by Christopher Gatelli, set design by Scott Pask, and costume design by Jess Goldstein.

The show will play three engagements before Broadway. They include stops at San Francisco's Curran Theater from April 25th through May 21st, Toronto's Canon Theater from May 27th through July 2nd, and Chicago's LaSalle Bank Theater from July 5th through July 16th.
