It boggles my mind that people can't identify Jerry Springer: The Opera's underlying positive messages about spirituality, social acceptance and responsibility. Apparently, if you show Jesus as anything other than a golden boy the whole world shuts off their brains.
Speaking as an American, I had hoped that England had been spared the rash of Bible-beating fundamentalists that've engulfed my nation in the past decade. I guess not.
It's a shame these Christian Talibanistas seek to deny a show that so powerfully conveys the notion of inherent good (and bad) in everyone, whether they be trash-talking drag queens, overweight pole dancers or even the kind of man who seeks to make profit from the conflicts of others.
Whether or not you agree with the moralistic relativism presented in the third act, it's hard to find fault in the words of the show's explicitly stated moral: 'Take care of yourselves, and each other.' I thought that's what Christianity was all about?
