London - A ceramic vase by Pablo Picasso sold for 33,600 pounds (59,619 dollars) at a London auction of more than 100 Picasso ceramic works, Sotheby's auction house announced on Thursday.
At 75.5 centimetres, the painted and glazen earthenware vase entitled 'Tripode' is one of the artist's largest ceramic pieces, and was the most coveted item at Wednesday's auction.
Several plates, tiles, bowls and jugs produced by the artist in collaboration with Madoura pottery in southern France also went under the hammer Wednesday.
Picasso worked at the pottery between 1947 and 1953, producing some 600 ceramic works, most of which were made by craftsmen working to his designs.
Tripode, which dates from 1951, was one of his earliest designs. Some 75 copies of the design are in existence.
