Cultural ignorance on such grand display must summon a comment. The storyline for Hot Feet is lifted from the Hans Christian Andersen story, The Red Shoes, which was later developed as a compelling film starring Moira Shearer, by Michael Powell (1948). One would expect a journalist, even a show biz one, to know something of a work's provenance.

My prior knowledge of a work is not the issue here. Whether I am thoroughly familiar with all of Hans Christian Andersen's works or not, it is not my place as a journalist, show biz or not, to credit a work when it has not been credited by the artists.

Indeed, sir, it is your duty to credit the original work. Not to do so is to be complicit in plagiary. There was a time when your rebuttal itself would have been embarassing in its refusal to admit error, its effrontery, and your obvious ignorance of basic journalistic ethics. You appear, however, to have joined the legion of modern-day journalists who subscribe to nothing but self-aggrandizement and the search for lucre.

Pardon: madam. Imagine a member of the put-upon sex engaging in such behavior. My assumption that a male member of your profession had written this drivel is, no doubt, just desserts.
