Toronto : The cast has been revealed for the upcoming Toronto production of Dirty Dancing - The Classic Story On Stage . Starring as dance instructor Johnny Castle will be Jake Simons. Dancing alongside him will be Monica West as Frances "Baby" Houseman. The rest of the cast will include Al Sapienza as Dr. Jake Houseman, Victoria Adilman as Majorie, Natalie Krill as Lisa, Victor A. Young as Max Kellerman, Adel Gigantes as Vivian, Eric Fink as Mr. Schumacher, Dylan Trowbridge as Neil Kellerman, Kent Sheridan as Moe Pressman, Rudy Webb as Tito Suarez, Ben Mingay as Billy, Jeffrey Wetsch as Robbie, Tyler Murree as Stan, and Joyce Krenz as Mrs. Schumacher.
The ensemble features Michelle Black, Lydia Bouchard, Karen Burthwright, Peter Buzny, Christopher Compton, Diana Diaz, Milda Gecaite, Ryan Gifford, Elizabeth Gordon, Bryan Hindle, Jodi McFadden, Sarah Murphy-Dyson, Tammy Nera, Jesse Robb, Jaz Sealey, Jason Sermonia, Jivaro Smith, Christopher Tierney, Michael Torontow, Jonathan Whittaker, Johnny Wright, and Melissa O'Neil.
Dirty Dancing will begin previews at the Royal Alexandra Theatre on October 31, 2007 and officially open on November 15th.
The creative team features direction by James Powell, choreography by Kate Champion, lighting design by Tim Mitchell, costume design by Jennifer Irwin, sound design by Bobby Aitken, and set design by Stephen Brimson-Lewis.
Written and created by Eleanor Bergstein, Dirty Dancing is based on the hit 1987 film which starred Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey. The musical premiered in Australia in 2004.
The plot surrounds pampered Baby Houseman and her family's trip to the Catskills in 1963, where she falls in love with her wrong side of the tracks dance partner, Johnny Castle. The film featured several hits songs including "I've Had the Time of My Life," "Hungry Eyes," and "She's Like the Wind" as well as the classic and often repeated phrase, "Nobody puts Baby in the corner."
