Romeo and Juliet to be apart of 2007's Shakespeare in the Park

New York: The Public Theater's Artistic Director Oskar Eustis and Executive Director Mara Manus announce that Romeo and Juliet, directed by Michael Grief, will open this summer's Shakespeare in the Park. Not since 1968 has Romeo and Juliet graced the Delacorte stage. Previews will begin on Tuesday, June 5th with performances continuing through July 8th. To increase accessibility, The Public has extended the run of the two Shakespeare in the Park productions from four to five weeks. Opening night will be announced at a later date. Romeo & Juliet is one of the best known and well loved of the Bard's plays. The famous young star-crossed lovers Romeo Montague and Juliet Capulet fall in love despite the ongoing feud between their two noble families. Their impassioned love is forced to endure the greatest of tests. Tragically, they are only united in the end through death. Performances of Shakespeare in the Park will be Tuesday Through Sunday at 8:00 p.m. Tickets are free and will be available on the day of the performance (two per person) at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park beginning at 1:00 p.m. and at The Public Theater, 425 Lafayette Street (near Astor Place), from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. The closest entrances to the Delacorte are at 81st Street and Central Park West or 70th Street and Fifth Avenue.
