From Monsters and Critics.com Middle East News Tripoli - A Libyan source on Friday denied claims that a group of tourists and their Egyptian safari staff kidnapped last week in Egypt have crossed the border into the Libyan desert. 'Search operations were conducted in the Libyan desert, and we can confirm that the hostages and their captors are not in Libya,' the Libyan source said. It was reported Thursday that the kidnappers took their 19 hostages across the border into Libya. On September 19, 11 tourists - five Germans, five Italians and one Romanian - and eight Egyptian guides were kidnapped while on a safari in Egypt's Gilf Kebir region in the Western Desert. Reports emerged that the kidnappers were seeking a ransom of 6 million euros (8.8 million dollars). Negotiations have been undertaken with the kidnappers by German government on behalf of all three countries of origin of the tourists.
