Angelina Jolie is reportedly set to remove her ovaries in preventative cancer surgery after undergoing double mastectomy due to a genetic mutation,.
The humanitarian and Oscar-winning actress had an 87% risk of developing breast cancer and a 50% chance of ovarian cancer.
Jolie revealed on May 14, 2013 that she had undergone a preventive double mastectomy after finding out she carried the gene mutation that leads to a higher risk of both breast and ovarian cancer.
The BRCA1 gene mutation led to her decision out of fears she may suffer a fate similar to her beloved late mother who passed at age 56.
Jolie wrote in a New York Times op-ed piece that her risk of getting breast cancer was higher than the risk of ovarian cancer.
According to People magazine, Jolie, 37, will procede with the removal of her ovaries too.
