Winner of “Best Villain” bu the Kid’s Choice Awards, Angelina Jolie gave an emotional speech at Saturday’s Kids’ Choice Awards, where she won the coveted “baddie” award for her role as Maleficent.
The star-studded telecast featured additional celebrity participants, including: Jamie Foxx, Emma Stone, Liam Hemsworth, Chris Rock, Zendaya, Echosmith, Josh Gad, Tia Mowry-Hardrict, Grant Gustin, Debby Ryan, Chloe Bennet, Fifth Harmony, Joe Jonas, Nick Cannon, Shawn Mendes, Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting, Kevin James, Mo’ne Davis, Skylar Diggins, Ross Lynch, Quvenzhané Wallis, Meghan Trainor, Jennette McCurdy, Laura Marano, Katherine Herzer, Jennette McCurdy and Bethany Mota, plus cast members from The Haunted Hathaways, Instant Mom, SpongeBob SquarePants, and many others.
Jolie said that she was told that she was different as a child, but learned to see it as a strength.
“Different is good. So, don’t fit in. Don’t sit still. Don’t ever try to do less than you are,” she said. “When somebody tells you you’re different, smile and hold your head up high and be proud. And as you’re villain, I would also say — cause a little trouble. It’s good for you.”
Jolie and Pitt’s daughter Shiloh was in attendance, and is said to prefer being called “John” and dressing in boys clothing.
Other famous stars who are also publicly dealing with trans and gender non-conforming children include Warren Beatty and Annette Bening, whose eldest son has made a very public statement on YouTube about his transition from female to male. Stephen Ira Beatty, born Kathlyn Elizabeth Beatty, calls himself “a trans man, a faggy queen, a homosexual, a queer, a nerd fighter, a writer, an artist and a guy who needs a haircut.”
The 39-year-old actress recently disclosed she had a laparoscopic bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy, where her ovaries and fallopian tubes were removed earlier this month after doctors detected a possible sign of early cancer. She had a double mastectomy in 2013 after DNA tests revealed the likelihood of her getting cancer was unusually high, given her mother, grandmother and other female relatives had suffered the disease too.
