American snack genius: Funley’s Delicious Snacks our May 2013 Natural Products Expo spotlight

Real and tasty food alert: I first crossed paths with Funley’s Delicious Snacks at the Natural Products Expo West in Anaheim last year.

They had an unassuming booth, certainly nothing as grandiose as the KIND bar extravaganza replete with blaring music and a floor show, but what Funley’s did have was a down-to-earth charm and samples of their cookies and crackers that were chock full of hidden veggies and loaded with flavor.

Funley’s was started by Ashley and Shawn Mendel, once a power couple in the entertainment industry that turned an old family recipe into a healthy snacking company.  Funley’s Delicious makes ‘Better-For-You’ snacking that is devoid of hydrogenated oils and bad ingredients that make you rotund and afflicted with chronic disease. The entire country is waking up and getting some religion when it comes to food in general, and Funley’s are at the forefront of making over your snack attack foods.

Funley’s was named after the fictional family, “The Funley’s” who are the face of the brand. Millie does all the baking. Moe does all the tasting. Their dog Lucy is in charge of mischief. Their tag line is “For all humans with mouths and minds, everyone else we apologize…”

Funley’s are 100% all natural with no preservatives, no trans fats, no high fructose corn syrup, GMO free, no artificial bad anything. They are packaged smart in small portion controlled bags, and are made with clever combinations of ingredients. Their entire line of products is eco-friendly. They use 100% recycled boxes that are made with 100% wind energy and printed with vegetable-based inks.

Funley’s ( offers all-natural and delicious snacks including their Stix in the Mud line which comes in “Original”, “Caramel” and “Peanut Butter.”

Their newest line called Super Crackers features a superfood veggie as the base ingredient behind delicious flavors like “Pizza n’ Stuff” and “Ranch n’ Stuff.”  The crackers are light and crisp, and not too heavy on the flavor, just right.

Lastly, their Wholly Granolly Clusters include 10-12 grams of whole grains per serving and their “Double Chocolate” flavor is a top seller in school vending machines. These are fabulous on-the-go snacks for anyone who likes a nutrient dense tasty treat while hiking, traveling or as an adjunct treat to add to a lunch.

We sampled all three and loved them all, especially Stix in the Mud in Chocolate Clusters with Crunchy Whole Grain Cookie Bits, a confection cookie that took the Fitness Magazine award in 2011 for best new snack. Totally satisfying.

Made in the USA by an American family, get smart about your snacking and try these out.
