Album Review: Ghostface Killah – ‘The Big Doe Rehab’

Ghostface Killah (aka Dennis Coles) got his start with the Wu-Tang Clan, but move off to a solo career that includes two gold albums (‘Supreme Clientele’ and ‘Fishscale’) and one platinum (‘Ironman’).

‘The Big Doe Rehab’ is Ghostface’s seventh album and I’m sure he hopes to repeat chart success.  This album finds him with a bevy of guest performers, including Beanie Sigel, Raekwon and Method Man (“Yolanda’s House”), Kid Capri (“We Celebrate”), Trife Da God and Sun God (“Yapp City”), Shawn Wigs (“White Linen Affair”), Raekwon and U-God (“Rec-Room Therapy”), Ox (“The Player”), and several more.

The disc also features two bonus tracks with Method Man and Masta Killa (“Killa Lipstick”) and Chrisette Michele (“Slow Down”).

The album starts off with the “At the Cabana Skit” which has Ghostface showing up at the Cabana only to have some Latin “Gangstas” sitting at this table.  His reliance on the many guest stars/collaborators brings to mind something like Wu-Tang Clan.  “Yolanda’s House” has a pretty funny lyric.

If Ghostface is your cup of java then you’ll like this one.  I’m not a rap fan, so I’ll have to beg off offering an opinion but I did like the comedic aspects in some of the lyrics.
