Folk rock as defined by the American Heritage Dictionary as “popular music that combines elements of rock-n-roll and folk music.” Well, duh. This grand set from Time Life examines four decades of folk rock.
Each of the four CDs covers a prescribed decade. Disc one starts off with the 60s and features such tunes as “Like a Rolling Stone” by Bob Dylan and “Eve of Destruction” by Barry McGuire. Disc two trucks onto the 70s and has “American Pie” by Don McLean and “Whiskey in the Jar” by Thin Lizzy.
We greedily move into the 80s with disc three and hear “Talk about Passion” by R.E.M. and “A Pair of Brown Eyes” by the Pogues. We conclude with disc four with into the 90s and beyond with “Galileo” by the Indigo Girls and “Chief” by Patty Griffin.
You may have guessed my estimation of this set – instant collection! I loves me an instant collection! Actually it really collects some good songs. It reminds me of tuning into a folk rock station since it features all different artists.
I had a blast listening to this collection and highly recommend it if you’re wanting a folk rock collection.Note the date on this article may be incorrect due to importing it from our old system.
