Pearls, Tears Of The Sea event March 15 at Rose Studio, Lincoln Center Plaza

A stunning collection of photographs and German poetry comprise the latest tome, Pearls, Tears Of The Sea, an extraordinary art book that speaks to the soul, and delights anyone who adores the sea as much as I do.

The photographs are on display at The Rose Studio, Lincoln Center Plaza Thursday March 15 at 7 PM.

Tidal pools and craggy shorelines are wellsprings of wonder and life, and in this book, musician and artist Barbara L. Luisi brings us to the seashore of Camogli, Italy after a night during which the waves roared in as a wild storm raged.

She went for a walk on the churned-up beach the next morning and was amazed at what had been washed up on the beach.

Wood, seaweed, sea urchins, all kinds of flotsam. Luisi used the pearl she was wearing round her neck and laid it among all these mysterious treasures that had been revealed by the sea. It seemed as if it had always belonged there. Queen of the spume. The Pearls, Tears of the Sea project was born.

Barbara L. Luisi is a graduate of the Munich Arts and Music Highschool, studying violin from age 9. Luisi has performed professionally with the Munich Philharmonic, Orchestre du Capitol de Toulouse, Bayerische Staatsoper and she was featured as first violinist in the Pocci String Quartet.

Tomorrow night, Luisi’s art will be displayed in an evening of photography and music celebrating the publication of Pearls, Tears of the Sea, with song settings of
Heaven has Shed a Tear (Rückert) and The Sea Hath Its Pearls (Heine)
by Robert Schumann, Max Reger, Fabio Luisi, and Bruce Adolphe.

Also joining them are Sasha Cooke, mezzo-soprano, Michael Slattery, tenor
Kristin Lee, violin, Marija Stroke, piano
