‘I, Alex Cross’ gets October release

Summit Entertainment will open “I, Alex Cross,” an origin tale based on the books of James Patterson, on October 26, 2012.

According to Variety, Tyler Perry will play the iconic detective-psychologist Alex Cross.

Rob Cohen directs from a script by Kerry Williamson and Marc Moss.

Ed Burns, Matthew Fox, Jean Reno, Giancarlo Esposito and John C. McGinley have also been cast.

The story finds Cross teaming up with another detective to track down a serial killer.

QED’s Bill Block and Paul Hanson are producing along with Patterson, Leopoldo Gout and Steve Bowen.

Morgan Freeman played the Cross character in “Kiss the Girls” and “Along Came a Spider.”
