Exclusive limited edition prints, discounted A+D memberships, and museum gifts available for the holidays
Architecture and Design Museum (A+D) is opening its doors for a two day holiday event, Friday and Saturday, December 13th and 14th, 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., in celebration of Armin Hofmann, the legendary Swiss graphic designer and educator. During the open houses, limited edition Armin Hofmann prints, discounted A+D memberships, and museum specialty items are available for design enthusiasts as holiday gifts.
Hofmann was born in Winterthur, Switzerland, in 1920. He studied at the School of Arts and Crafts in Zurich, then worked as a lithographer in Basel and Bern. He then went on to open his own studio in Basel. In 1947 he began teaching at the Basel School of Arts and Crafts after he met Emil Ruder on a train and learned that the school was looking for a new teacher. Hofmann remained there for 40 years and eventually replaced Emil Ruder as the head of the school.
The open houses will enable visitors to experience the subject of color on a more intimate level. It’s an opportunity to meet the A+D Director, Tibbie Dunbar, Mike Grosswendt, the innovative builder, philanthropist and 2013 A+D museum construction sponsor, April Greiman, curator and exhibition designer, and Michael Rotondi, exhibition designer.
“The Armin Hofmann exhibit is a complete departure from the last show, ‘Never Built’ says Mike Grosswendt. “This is small, intimate and meditative experience showcasing the versatile quality of A+D, bringing forward design, architecture and art that is transformative. It is a must see.”
A+D Museum is located at 6032 Wilshire Boulevard Los Angeles, CA 90036.
Admission for the event is $7.00 and can be used toward new memberships and gift memberships.
