Christian Bale heading ‘Out of the Furnace’

Christian Bale is in talks to star in Relativity Media’s revenge thriller “Out of the Furnace.”

According to Variety, Scott Cooper (“Crazy Heart”) is writing and directing.

The film, based on Brad Ingelsby’s spec script “The Low Dweller,” centers on a recently released ex-con (Bale) who seeks vengeance on the man who killed his younger brother.

Robert Duvall is in talks to play Bale’s uncle, while Viggo Mortensen is the favorite to play the villain.

Casey Affleck, Garrett Hedlund, Taylor Kitsch and Channing Tatum are the names being mentioned to play Bale’s brother.

Ridley Scott is producing through his Scott Free along with Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Davisson Killoran through their Appian Way.

Bale will be seen as Batman for the final time this summer in “The Dark Knight Rises.”
