One the heels of two books featuring innovative crochet shawls and wraps, Omdahl presents her first knit book with eighteen scarves, wraps, shawls and skirts focusing on designs meant to be wrapped or tied. While that may be Omdahl’s stated focus, these fresh patterns feature some unusual design elements that make them outstanding. The Infinity Cardi-wrap for example, combines self-striping yarn with an interesting design motif that makes up the garment’s back panel. Stitches are then picked up on the sides to create the front panels that feature 3/3 crossed loops for additional texture. The scalloped edge of the Warrior Wings Shawl worked in a light brushed alpaca yarn sets off the lovely lace pattern to a “T” while the unusual slits worked into the drapey Sand Dollar Belted Lace Cape allow it to be worn at least three different ways.
With attention to detail and elegant finishing touches, this collection is best suited for the intermediate and advanced knitter though there are some for the adventurous beginner. Watch the notes as they indicate which of the more unusual techniques are demonstrated in the handy DVD reference guide that is the next best thing to having a private instructor at your side. Each design is photographed from different angles showing the overall look plus close-ups and frequently, different ways of being worn. Whether your interest is lace, texture or construction details, this collection has a little something for everyone.Note the date on this article may be incorrect due to importing it from our old system.
