se_030215_drseussTo celebrate the 25th Anniversary of Dr. Seuss’s Oh, The Places You’ll Go!, NY1’s Pat Kiernan, “Sesame Street’s” Roscoe Orman (“Gordon”), MSNBC’s Abby Huntsman, best-selling children’s author R.J. Palacio and Seussical The Musical’s David Holcenberg visit 92Y on March 2 at 10:30 am to read the beloved book and other Dr. Seuss favorites to approximately 900 NYC public students (ages 5-7), and via free, live webcast at www.92y.org/livecast.

March 2 is Dr. Seuss’s birthday, as well as Read Across America Day, an NEA initiative.

The students have been invited to come dressed as their favorite Dr. Seuss characters; and a Dr. Seuss “Cat in the Hat” costume will be on hand for – courtesy of the Dr. Seuss estate. Random House will donate a 25th anniversary edition of Oh! The Places You’ll Go! to each classroom attending the event.

The event celebrating this genius of children’s books is also a part of 92Y’s 7 Days of Genius Festival, March 1-8, which brings together luminaries from the worlds of science, technology, religion, art, music, film, literature and business to consider, de-mystify and unravel all things “genius” at events in New York, at satellite venues around the country, and online at 92Y.org/genius.

“Literacy and the joy of reading are essential for every child’s development – and we want to celebrate the wondrous world of Dr. Seuss with all the children of New York City!,” says Larisa Gelman, Director of 92Y’s Educational Outreach program.

March 2 is a very special day indeed—not only is it Dr. Seuss’s birthday, but it’s also the first day of the National Education Association’s Read Across America initiative.
